The Hook

The party is passing the crossroads above Barrowmill when a girl no older than twelve comes sprinting up the cart track, out of breath, dragging a lantern she forgot to light. Her name is Wren Hollis, and she's not asking for help so much as recruiting: something fell into her father's field last night, it's still warm, it's starting to move, and men with swords are already asking around the village about 'the light in the Hollis barley.' She needs people who aren't from around here — people the crown and the church haven't bought yet.
