The Solemn Ledger — the guild of magically-bound notaries whose signature carries the literal weight of law — has retained the party as Bonded Witnesses for the reading of Archwizard Ossian Marrow's last will and testament. It's standard practice for estates this large and families this poisonous: an impartial party to watch the notary work, so no one can later claim the reading was rigged. The fee is good, the job is supposed to be boring, and the tower is supposed to just sit there and be haunted, not opinionated. None of that turns out to be true.
