The Hook

Each character receives two letters in the same week. The first is cream vellum stamped with a grinning skull sigil: 'You have been accepted to Blackthorn Mortuary University's inaugural cohort, tuition waived, room and board provided, in recognition of exceptional aptitude.' The second arrives by less official means — a temple elder, a city magistrate, a guild patron, or a grieving noble family, depending on the character — asking quietly for one more thing: go to Blackthorn, learn its secrets, and send word if the Reaper of Thistlemoor is building something worse than a school.
